BIOGRAPHY
Frank Bollinger has been working in the film industry in Europe and in the United States for the past 25 years.
As a native German, his path to production design began when he apprenticed in Germany for master carpenters in the 1980s. From this early exposure in fine craftsmanship, he developed a strong interest in architecture and design at The Technical College in Stuttgart, Germany where he graduated at the top of his class. To further his education, he attended the School of Visual Arts in New York.
His introduction to the world of filmmaking began when he worked on the set of acclaimed German director Roland Emmerich’s early productions, which marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration. This was when Bollinger first witnessed the art of filmmaking and his passion for production and set design was born. Bollinger became part of Emmerich’s core team for the next three years working on feature films such as “Hollywood Monster”(1987) and “Moon 44”(1990).
Subsequently, Bollinger spent 4 years in Berlin where he worked on numerous international feature productions including Claude Chabrol's "Dr. M"(1990), Thomas Brasch's“The Passenger - Welcome to Germany” (1988). He then rejoined Emmerich in Los Angeles, working as Art Director on a series of blockbuster films, namely “Universal Soldier”(1992), “Stargate” (1994) and “Independence Day”(1996).
In 1994, Bollinger began his career as a Production Designer with the independent film “The High Crusade”(1994).
Since then, he has worked on numerous feature film productions all over the globe. Bollinger colaborated with many outstanding directors such as Roland Emmerich (Stargate(1994) & Independence Day(1996), Daniel Myrick “The Objective”(2008) and Oscar winning directors Stefan Ruzowitzky “All the Queens Men” (2001) and Xavier Koller “Die Schwarzen Brueder”(2012).
He has gained a reputation in the independent film world as a Production Designer who brings endless energy and exquisite style to every production he works on. His ability to adapt difficult locations and represent any historical period has earned him acclaim in the industry. Bollinger prides himself and is prized by others for his ability to work within any budget assuring each film’s onscreen look appearing to be a multiple of its original value.
Bollinger has also successfully designed numerous of commercials for clients such as McDonalds, Sony, Farmers Insurance and music videos for Dragpipe, Soil, Meatloaf, Lenny Kravitz etc.
